GREETINGS

• Shaking hands is a common greeting

• Women might greet each other by shaking hands, hugging, or kissing each other on the cheek 

• It is considered inappropriate for a man to shake a womans hand or touch her if she is not a close relative

• A man can greet a woman verbally without looking directly at her 

• Assalaam 'alaikum (may peace be upon you) is the most common greeting. The reply to this is Wa assalaam 'alaikum (and peace also upon you) 

• Goodbye is khoda hafiz
